Homes for Sale in Brandermill
Chesterfield County, VA
Brandermill can be argued is one of the most important and unique neighborhoods to be developed in the Richmond Metro as its creation both changed the way Richmond was shaped and the way Richmond viewed is suburbs.
East West Partners developed the community, in phases, beginning the later 1970's well into the 1990's, around the Swift Creek Reservoir (Brandermill Lake). Departing from the development practices of the era, Brandermill was Richmond's first true 'Planned Community' with homes grouped by price, type and style in winding cul-de-sacs connected by several neighborhood parkways. In addition to grouping homes by price and style, Brandermill also had extensive rules governing paint and siding colors, exterior materials and roof types to create a high degree of similarity and minimum standards within each mini neighborhood. This practice is commonplace today, but in the 1970's, it was the first time it had been seen in Richmond.
Overall, Brandermill changed Richmond in that it moved suburban Richmond deep into Central Chesterfield County and opened up development momentum along the Hull Street corridor and eventually necessitated the extension of Powhite Parkway effectively to the neighborhood.
